To isolate the ship's network without changing frequencies, we reprogrammed the entire fleet of Motorola portable radios for analog communication, integrating a tone-coded squelch system. This system isolates the frequency: the radio speaker only unmutes when it receives a signal transmitted with the exact key defined for the network. This filtering technique allows the onboard personnel to communicate with peace of mind, eliminating all unwanted signals from nearby vessels.

A comprehensive approach: The essential reprogramming of the onboard repeater

The initial request only concerned the reprogramming of the walkie-talkies. However, our preliminary technical audit confirmed the presence of an onboard radio repeater, which is essential for amplifying the signal through the ship's metal structure. Reprogramming the portable units alone would have immediately broken the link with the repeater. As specialists, we extended the intervention to the entire system: the repeater and the control station's fixed base were realigned with the same tone key to maintain perfect coverage throughout the hold and the bridge.
