Recently, the TRPS team had the opportunity to travel to the Philippines for a major technical mission. Our goal: to modernize and extend the existing UHF radio system aboard a commercial vessel. The complex steel structure of such a ship, with its multiple decks and holds, poses a major challenge for wave propagation, creating numerous critical dead zones that compromise safety.
Precise configuration and programming of crew equipment
The first crucial step on-site involved a comprehensive audit and reprogramming of existing terminals. Our technician used specialized software to configure every walkie-talkie used by the crew, optimizing UHF frequencies and ensuring compatibility with the newly deployed equipment. This software update is essential to guarantee the efficiency and clarity of communications.
Repeater installation and comprehensive coverage audit
To ensure seamless coverage in all areas of the ship, including the engine room and lower decks, we installed, connected, and configured high-power UHF repeaters. Once the network was deployed, a rigorous coverage audit was conducted. As shown in the image, our technician performed reception tests in the most remote parts of the ship, verifying signal quality and ensuring the fluidity of critical communications.
